Supporting the Performing Arts, Film, Education, History, and Community

In partnership with the Majestic Theater owners, Brandon and Alicia Brewster, the Benicia Community Foundation has established the Friends of the Majestic Theater Fund to raise and administer charitable donations supporting performing arts, film, music, theater, education, historic programming, and community activities.

Opened in 1920, the Majestic Theater has been part of Benicia’s history for more than a century. Generations of residents have gathered there to enjoy films, performances, entertainment, and shared community experiences.

Your support will help strengthen the performing arts at the Majestic Theater when it opens, while also expanding opportunities throughout the Benicia community in performing arts, film, music, theater, education, historic programming, and community activities that benefit students, artists, families, seniors, nonprofit organizations, and residents of all ages.

Every contribution helps bring people together, strengthen the performing arts, expand access to cultural and educational programs, and helps inspire future generations throughout Benicia.

Donations to the fund may support:

• Live theater, concerts, music, dance, and other performing arts.
• Community and independent film screenings.
• Film, theater, music, and arts education.
• Benicia High School performances and student arts programs.
• Youth theater, workshops, rehearsals, and educational activities.
• Programs serving seniors, families, schools, nonprofit organizations, and underserved residents.
• Community access to performances and cultural activities.
• Historic exhibits, archives, lectures, and educational materials related to the theater.
• Performers, instructors, technicians, licensing, production expenses, and program materials.
• Rental of the theater for BCF-sponsored charitable programs at a reasonable and documented rate.

Contributions to BCF may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors should consult their tax advisers regarding their individual circumstances.

​Our Goal

Our mission is to honor the theater’s past by keeping it a community event space.

Phased Restoration: Our initial work will be implementing the repairs required by the city, followed by updating the theater to be a modern entertainment venue while maintaining the theater’s historic atmosphere.

Preservation-First Approach: Historic elements will be preserved and restored wherever possible to maintain the resort’s character.

Modern Amenities: Renovations will introduce updated lighting, audio, bathrooms, and concessions.

Community Focus: We plan to involve local craftspeople and contractors to create a space that serves both guests and the surrounding community.

Economic Considerations: The project aims to support local jobs and enhance Benicia’s downtown economy.

What to Expect Next

Permitting work will begin immediately, followed by a phased construction prioritized by safety and guest access. Regular updates will be shared with the public as milestones are reached. Opportunities for community input and partnerships will be announced. This restoration aims not only to revive a historic theater but to create a destination that respects its past while welcoming future guests.
